Voir destructeur. Basé sur l'algorithme LZW, il ne vaut mieux plus l'utiliser, car finalement, Unisys s'est aperçue qu'elle en possédait un brevet! Au dernières nouvelles, ils aimeraient faire payer jusqu'à 5000 dollars chaque webmestre utilisant des images compressés en LZW. Ils rêvent un peu, mais mieux vaut ne pas prendre le risque de servir d'exemple... Le format prévu pour le remplacer s'appelle PNG. Voir aussi Gifware. Les images au format GIF animé sont en fait des fichiers qui contiennent plusieurs images au format GIF, qui sont affichées les unes à la suite des autres. On rencontre principalement deux formats d'images sur le web: GIF et JPEG. GIF est meilleur pour les images contenant peu de couleurs (256 au maximum), par exemple des dessins, des icônes. Pour les photos, il vaut mieux choisir le JPEG qui offre un bien meilleur rapport qualité/taille de fichier.
