● n. m. et adj. inv. ►NORM Un standard est une norme qu'il faut respecter soit parce qu'un organisme en a décidé ainsi autoritairement (standard de jure), soit parce que tout le monde fait comme ça et que si on ne suit pas, on n'aura pas de clients (standard de facto). Il existe des standards pour tout en informatique, que ce soit pour les formats de documents, les langages, les connecteurs, les protocoles ou n'importe quoi d'autre. Évidemment, quand un standard est bien respecté, c'est très pratique puisqu'on peut sans risque brancher ensemble des éléments de provenances très diverses. L'opposé du standard est le système propriétaire. Les organismes de standardisation sont très nombreux, vous en trouverez une petite liste à l'article norme ou dans le thème "ORG". Théoriquement, "standard" est invariable lorsqu'il est utilisé en tant qu'adjectif (d'après Nancy Mobarhan).
