● ►en /d(on)-g*l/ n. m. ►COP Clef matérielle de protection, qui se branche en général sur un port d'E/S. Il stocke un certain code qui, s'il n'est pas trouvé par le logiciel associé au dongle, provoque l'arrêt du logiciel en question. Le Dongle peut aussi être logiciel (plus rare et de toute façon complètement chimérique). La clé électronique n'est matériellement pas très pratique, surtout emboîtée à la queue leu-leu en grand nombre, et les logiciels de grande diffusion n'en utilisent plus depuis des années, basant leur protection sur un numéro de série [f2s]. On parle aussi de dongle pour les clé USB.
